Cost comparison between Disposables and Modern Cloth Diapers

Well, this question is like a math problem. Your answer can't be honored unless you justify it with your solutions.

So let me show you my computaions... (by the way, this is all based on prices of products/services in the Philippines)

1. DISPOSABLE DIAPERS or DD in short

Given:
6        - (A) ave. price of a single DD
7        - (B) ave. number of diapers that your baby is using everyday
365    - (C) days in a year
2.5     - (D) ave. number of years that your baby will use diapers

Equations:
  • A x B = ____ x C = ____ x D = ave. total price
Solutions:
  • 6 x 7 =  42  x 365 =  15,330   x 2.5 =  38,325
Answer:
  • 38,325 Php is the ave. total amount that you will spend with DDs until your baby is potty trained.
* That 6.00 Php is a price of a single small sized DD or large sized DD in some brands
* The total price above is only an average or estimated... and of course you'll spend more when your baby has diarrhea at times or if you use other pricey DD brands.

2. (MODERN) CLOTH DIAPERS or CD in short (the price of a single set modern cloth diaper ranges from 145Php to 1000Php++, depends on brand. In my computation here, I based the price on the cloth diaper brands that I use)

Given:
250    - (A) the price of a single CD set
35     - (B) ave. number of CDs that you'll need to buy (You'll need at least 25pcs. to do exclusive cloth diapering but, yeah, it's still up to you and your laundry schedules)

Equation:
  • A x B = ____
Solutions:
  • 250 x 35 =  8,750
*okay, so that's it? NAAAAH.. in using CDs there are other necessities to consider such as:

  • Extra inserts/Boosters/Doublers for greater absorbency of the CDs (for older and heavy wetter babies) they said that your extra inserts should be equal to the number of your diapers. So, No. of extra inserts = No. of CDs :)

Given:     100 - ave. price of an insert; 35 - no. of extra inserts that you need
          Solution: 100 x 35 =  3,500

  • Detergent. I am using Calla so I used its price for my computation here. I spend 32Php a month.
          Solutions: 32Php x 12 months =  384  x 2.5 years =  960
  • Water Bill. We didn't really noticed any increase in our bill when I started using CDs so I think it's not that high?? maybe 200Php per month

          Solutions: 200Php x 12 months =  2,400  x 2.5 years =  6000

  • Electric Bill if you're using washing machine or dryer. Same with water bill, we didn't had any increase when I started doing machine wash. So, let's make it equal to the water bill hehe... 200Php per month.

          Solutions: 200Php x 12 months =  2,400  x 2.5 years =  6000

Finally, for the total amount:

Given:
8,750 - 30 pcs CD sets
3,500   - extra inserts/boosters/doublers
960   - detergent
6,000   - water bill
6,000   - electric bill

Solution:
  • 8,750 + 3,500 + 960 + 6,000 + 6,000 =  25,210
THERE, you see the difference? You can save up to 13,000Php++

and another thing.. REMEMBER!! you can still use these cloth diapers for the next babies if you took good care of them :)) and also, you can sell them if you're not using them anymore. BIG SAVINGS right?

Swith to CLOTH!! :D Experience!! and I swear, you'll enjoy it.
